2025’S EXTREME WEATHER SURGE: Tornadoes, Climate, and What It Means For Your Crews

The Forecast (So Far)
By May 2025, over 700 tornadoes have already touched down in the U.S., including more than 80 EF-2 or stronger. This surge has led to significant loss of life and widespread infrastructure damage. In March alone, tornado activity more than doubled the monthly average, with three major outbreaks. The record-setting March 13–16 outbreak produced 117 confirmed tornadoes and caused over $6.25 billion in damages.
NOAA’s 2025 hurricane outlook forecasts an above-normal Atlantic season, with 13 to 19 named storms, 6 to 10 hurricanes, and 3 to 5 major hurricanes — marking the sixth consecutive year of heightened activity. Meanwhile, severe weather trends in early 2025 have already brought over 700 tornadoes nationwide, well ahead of historical averages.
These are not ordinary times — and that’s why ordinary solutions aren’t enough.
